We’ve all taken a journey through the desert planes south of the sand casino. And while the desert does have some very unique features I believe OSRS has barely scratched its capability. If you look at the desert from the world map you see one major thing in common. OPEN DEAD SPACE. Space to the north east is very open the southwest corner is just black space and sophanem & menaphos are very dead as well. (No pun intended) . I have a few ideas for the desert that could bring new life into the hot wasteland. Note; this is a broad list of ideas that I would love feedback on and any of your own ideas I would love to incorporate. • Basin irrigation farming One of the main adaptations that thrusted ancient Egyptian society as a forerunner was their ability to produce and maintain agriculture and horticulture, they were so successful because they farmed using the nile river and made the first “irrigation systems”. This basin irrigation farming is where they would control water levels with canals and slopes during different times of the year based on the flooding. The flooding would end and leave super fertile silt soil to use. They had magnificent gardens and orchards but with this method it would have long long growing periods. I was thinking maybe a minigame that gives farming, woodcutting and construction xp with similar rates that don’t require building and planting the same thing over and over instead, have to reconstruct canals and slopes and waterways to keep the irrigation’s water supply flowing while others focus on planting the orchards and taking care of them. •herbs and medicines the Egyptians also used very different forms of medicine and healing. This could be a nice expansion to the herblore skill, at the Middle Kingdom of Egypt their were over 2000 different flowers, herbs and plant life. We could incorporate some type of desert farming patch that would be the only way to obtain the new herbs and their secondaries. Or even new secondaries that could add different effects to current potions or make them last longer etc. •lastly what you all have been thinking. Desert treasure 2. I have a few different ideas on how this quest could go, obviously it would involve finally opening menaphos (where we could add the top ideas and much more) and ending all of the plagues. But to get to that point and end the plagues you would have to fight the army of Anubis and vanquish them back to the underworld. As some may know Anubis has an army of dog like soldiers that wield “sickle swords” and “slicing axes” slicing axes are a cool concept bc they are a lightweight two handed slashing axe not crush. These weapons could find a way to be put in game? Maybe not. But the main pickle with this quest and story line is the end and the boss. I look at it as we already have the kalphite Queen with a semi decent drop table and usually only killed for diaries etc. so do we go the route of making the kaphite king the main boss? I disagree and thought more of making the boss “the scorpion king” just like in ancient Egypt and the movies. A boss whose mastered melee and thrown weapons. (He has superior skills with spears, javelins, bows and all melee weapons) also the king can only die from “scepter of Osiris”. Which is a wand when collapsed but a spear when opened. We could make this the weapon that turns the tables for magic in PVP (and other situations obviously). Make the weapon have two forms spear form and scepter form. Each upgrade would be a drop and need to be built similar to the bludgeon I think we could finally make a main magic weapon capable of dealing a KO special attack. I have no ideas for special attacks or effects that could make it viable. This is where I need help from others and especially those who love the desert area and Egyptian history like myself.
